The Egg Research Institute was funded on 12th of June 1996. The members of the institute consider necessary to provide formal and contrasted information that counteracts the wrong beliefs about eggs gathered during the last years. The Institute messages are communicated to people throughout independent spokesmen that are prestigious professionals in different public fields.

The task of the Executive Commission members are among others: to provide the documents that the Institute will publish, to compile interesting papers about eggs, nutrition and health, and finally, to write the messages that the Institute send to consumers and other interested people. The Executive Commission is also the spokesman in the scientific field.

One of the main objectives of the Institute is to promote investigation related to egg in our country. For this reason, there are an award and a grant for research purposes that are aimed to research teams working on eggs or in something related to egg production, health and eggs, food technology, egg quality, egg marketing, etc.

Another Institute duty is to know the last scientific researches and technologic advances in fields such as production, health and nutrition related to eggs. They compile all the papers published about eggs during the last years to support the Institute messages. These papers also are a source of information for those who daily ask to the Institute about different matters. These papers also are a very good bibliography for those who want to get deeper in any specific topic about eggs.

The Institute is a source of information and documentation about the egg and its implications in nutrition and health. One of the most important activities of the Institute is to provide information to people. These messages are addressed to groups such as consumers, housewives and professionals that help to spread this information throughout the nutritional educational field.

For this reason the Institute usually participates in Conferences, Symposiums, sessions, and many activities organized by other institutions to spread and refresh the scientific knowledge. In these activities, the Institute provides information about the egg and its role in nutrition from a serious and scientific point of view. These events also features expert speakers of the Scientific Consulting Council or professionals with appropriated profiles for the program of the activity.

The Institute also has the Golden Award for those prestigious outstanding people working in the fields of culture, gastronomy, the media or any other field attached to the egg, to our culture and tradition.

The Consulting Council members are specialist in matters of nutrition and health. They have helped to make the black legend around the egg disappear. They also got to transmit a good feeling around the egg when they reset the good image lost in former years, those governed by an authentic cholesterol phobia.
