In the year 2000 egg world production was about 50 million tons. Last year, there were near 5,000 million hens from what 300 million were in the EU. There were 35 million hens in Spain. Spanish regions featuring the largest amount of hens were Catalonia, Castilla-León and Castilla-La Mancha.
